ECC ships 71 agents and 311 skills as an 'operating system' for coding agents

ECC, the agent-harness system from developer affaan-m, bundles 71 specialized agents and 311 skills into a single package for coding agents. The pitch is that instead of rebuilding a disciplined workflow in every prompt, you install it once: agents plan before they build, enforce test-driven development, review their own work, remember what worked, and scan prompts and hooks with an included AgentShield security tool. It runs best with Claude Code but has adapters for Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, Gemini and others. Installation is one command, npx ecc-universal setup, with a guided wizard. The repository has crossed 280,000 GitHub stars, making it one of the most-starred agent projects around, though it is largely the work of a single maintainer shipping weekly. The open-source repo is MIT-licensed and stays free; a paid GitHub App called ECC Pro covers private repositories.

Scientific Agent Skills grows to 177 skills covering 100+ scientific databases

K-Dense AI's Scientific Agent Skills collection now bundles 177 skills that plug into coding agents and turn them into research assistants. Each skill covers one concrete workflow — sequence analysis, molecular docking, single-cell RNA-seq, publication-quality figures, grant writing — with the conventions and checks the underlying tools need. Thirteen of the skills are database accessors that reach more than 100 scientific databases in total. The repo works with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Google Antigravity and other hosts that follow the Agent Skills standard, and installation is a single npx or gh skill command. The project has passed 51,000 GitHub stars, runs automated skill tests and security scans in CI, and is documented in an arXiv paper the authors ask researchers to cite. K-Dense also ships a free desktop companion, BYOK, that runs all the skills locally on the user's own API keys.

context-mode hits 30,000 stars with a local sandbox for coding agents' context windows

context-mode, an MCP server by mksglu for trimming AI coding agents' context-window consumption, has passed 30,000 GitHub stars. The approach: instead of dumping raw tool output into the context window, it sandboxes the output and hands the agent a compact summary, with the author reporting up to 98% less context consumed. It also keeps a persistent local memory of edits, git operations, tasks, errors, and decisions in SQLite with full-text search, so sessions survive compaction and resume without relearning the codebase. Installation on Claude Code is a plugin command, with hooks or MCP-only setups for sixteen other platforms. Everything runs locally with no telemetry, though note the license is the Elastic License v2, which is source-available rather than fully open source.

HyperFrames turns plain HTML into finished MP4 video, and it is built for agents

HeyGen's open-source HyperFrames framework renders video from plain HTML compositions, pairing a seekable animation runtime with headless Chrome capture and FFmpeg encoding. The authoring model is deliberately simple: an HTML file whose DOM declares timing through data-* attributes, with animation adapters for GSAP, Lottie, Three.js, and Anime.js. Around the core engine sits a full CLI workflow — init, lint, preview, render, publish — plus TTS voiceover, background music, transcription, and captions. It has crossed 65,000 GitHub stars, ships 21 agent skills and a Claude Code plugin, and is used in production at HeyGen with adopters like tldraw and TanStack named in the README, positioning itself directly against Remotion: plain HTML instead of React.

REA, the tool that lets AI agents reverse engineer anything, rockets past 285,000 GitHub stars

REA (Reverse Engineer Anything) by morluto has exploded on GitHub, crossing 285,000 stars with growth of several hundred stars per hour. The tool is an MCP server and CLI that plugs into AI coding agents — Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI and others — and lets them inspect binaries, applications and runtime behavior, then trace a feature down to the binary level with evidence attached. It handles native binaries through Hopper, Ghidra or IDA, plus Electron apps, Android APKs, .NET assemblies, firmware, WASM, EVM bytecode and network captures, all analyzed locally on your machine. Its showcase case studies include tracing Notion's Electron clipboard bridge and reconstructing a sound calculation from the DOS game DX-Ball. The MIT-licensed TypeScript project has 230 contributors and 72,000 forks, and its README is translated into 20 languages.

VoiceStudio passes 70,000 stars as a fully-local ElevenLabs alternative

VoiceStudio, the open-source voice studio by developer Palash Debnath, has passed 70,000 GitHub stars while pitching itself directly as a local replacement for ElevenLabs. The desktop app does zero-shot voice cloning, voice design, video dubbing, real-time dictation, transcription, and audiobook creation, claiming 646 languages, with no accounts and no per-character billing. It recently moved from a Tauri shell to Electron (0.5.3 was the last Tauri release) and now offers a local REST API, an OpenAI-compatible audio endpoint, an MCP server, and agent skills. The app is AGPL-3.0, but there is a catch worth knowing: the default OmniVoice model weights are CC-BY-NC, so anything commercial needs a different engine or license. Hardware costs are real too, with large models wanting a decent GPU or Apple Silicon.

Anthropic opens an official plugin directory for Claude Code

Anthropic has put up a company-managed directory of Claude Code plugins at github.com/anthropics/claude-plugins-official, and it has climbed to roughly 40,000 stars since its November launch. The repo splits into two folders: /plugins, with Anthropic-built tools for LSP support across 12 languages, PR review, git workflows, output formatting, and code quality; and /external_plugins, where third-party tools from GitHub, GitLab, Linear, Asana, Firebase, Playwright, Terraform, and Discord go after passing quality and security screening. Installation is straightforward — `/plugin install {name}@claude-plugins-official` or browse in `/plugin > Discover`. Anthropic is blunt in the README, though: even listed plugins can bundle third-party MCP servers and software it can't verify, so trust a plugin before you install it.

Moonshot AI releases Kimi K3, the largest open-weight model yet

Moonshot AI released the full weights of Kimi K3 on Hugging Face on July 27, a 2.8-trillion-parameter mixture-of-experts model — the biggest open-weight model published to date, now at about 11,700 likes. Only 104B parameters fire per token (16 of 896 experts), and it carries native text, image, and video understanding with a 1-million-token context window. The architecture is new: Kimi Delta Attention plus Attention Residuals, with quantization-aware training in MXFP4 weights and MXFP8 activations from the start. Its own benchmark tables claim 88.3 on Terminal-Bench 2.1, 93.5 on GPQA Diamond, 67.5 on DeepSWE, and 90.0 on Video-MME — all provider-reported. Two caveats: the custom Kimi K3 License isn't a standard open license, and running it yourself is not casual — the download alone is roughly 1.4TB.

Cursor publishes its official plugins repository

Cursor has opened github.com/cursor/plugins, a repository that doubles as the plugin specification and the official plugin set. Every plugin is a standalone directory with a .cursor-plugin/plugin.json manifest plus conventional skills/, rules/, and mcp.json folders, and a root marketplace.json lists everything. The lineup mixes developer-tools plugins — thermos for aggressive security audits, orchestrate for fanning tasks across cloud agents, pstack for rigorous agent workflows, and continual-learning for transcript-driven AGENTS.md memory updates — with around 90 integration plugins covering Gmail, Google Calendar, GitHub, Playwright, Salesforce, Shopify, and more. The repo sits at about 11,800 stars and is MIT licensed. For third-party authors, it's effectively the reference implementation of how a Cursor plugin should be shaped.

HeyGen open-sources Hyperframes, a framework for turning HTML into rendered video

HeyGen has open-sourced Hyperframes, a framework that turns plain HTML, CSS and media into finished MP4 videos. The idea is simple: instead of a timeline editor, you write a web page, and Hyperframes renders it frame by frame in headless Chromium and encodes it with FFmpeg. It ships with 21 skills that teach coding agents the whole production loop, from planning and animating to previewing and rendering, so an agent can build a product launch video or a motion graphic from a single prompt. The repo has picked up over 65,000 GitHub stars since March, and the docs site includes a showcase of finished videos along with a playground. It runs locally with a small CLI (init, preview, render) and needs only Node 22 and FFmpeg. The license is Apache 2.0.

Qwen3.8-27B lands as Alibaba's compact open vision-language model

The Qwen team has released Qwen3.8-27B on Hugging Face under Apache-2.0, and it has picked up around 17,800 likes in about two months. It's a dense 27B model with a native vision encoder, 262K-token context natively (extensible to 1M), built on the Gated DeltaNet hybrid architecture from Qwen3.5 with multi-token prediction. The model card's numbers are strong for the size: 61.7 on SWE-bench Pro, 73.0 on Terminal-Bench 2.1, 90.3 on LiveCodeBench v6, and 84.3 on OSWorld-Verified, alongside 94.6 on MathVision with a code interpreter. Thinking mode is on by default with adjustable reasoning_effort, and a hosted version on Qwen Cloud with 1M context and built-in tools is announced but not yet live. Community builds are already spreading — NVIDIA's NVFP4 variant and several Apple-Silicon MLX quantizations are up.

REA, the reverse-engineering MCP server, crossed 115,000 GitHub stars in a week

REA (Reverse Engineer Anything), an open-source MCP server from the GitHub account morluto, went from near-obscurity to over 115,000 stars in the first week of October 2026, making it one of the fastest climbs GitHub has ever recorded. The idea is straightforward: it hands a coding agent the tools to take apart software without its source code, then reports back pseudocode, module graphs, and the evidence behind each claim. Installation is a single command, npx rea-agents setup, and it supports twelve agents including Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex. Native analysis rides on existing Ghidra, Hopper, or IDA installs, while JavaScript, .NET, and network-capture analysis need no extra engine. Everything runs locally, the license is MIT, and the repo sat at 285,600 stars as of 2026-10-16.
