Vicuna 7B

Vicuna 7B is the 7B variant of LMSYS's Vicuna chatbot, released in March 2023 and fine-tuned from LLaMA on roughly 70,000 user-shared ChatGPT conversations from ShareGPT. Built by researchers from UC Berkeley, CMU, Stanford, and UC San Diego, it became one of the defining open chat models of 2023 and a fixture of the early Chatbot Arena.

LMSYS's claim that Vicuna reached 90 percent of ChatGPT quality was widely debated because of the small GPT-4-judged evaluation behind it, but the model family undeniably shaped open-source chatbot development. The v1 releases inherit LLaMA 1's non-commercial terms; the later v1.5 moved to a Llama 2 base.
