SPAR3D
Stability AI and NVIDIA's point-aware 3D reconstructor with real-time editing.
About
SPAR3D (Stable Point Aware 3D) was announced on January 8, 2025 at CES as a partnership between Stability AI and NVIDIA (arXiv 2501.04689). It takes a two-stage approach to single-image 3D reconstruction: a lightweight point diffusion model first generates a sparse 3D point cloud, then a triplane transformer refines it into a highly detailed mesh with texture and lighting.
The headline numbers are speed and control: a detailed 3D mesh from a single image in 0.7 seconds, with the intermediate point cloud editable in real time by deleting, duplicating, stretching, or recoloring points. It is tuned for NVIDIA RTX AI PCs, with weights on Hugging Face, code on GitHub, and API access through the Stability AI Developer Platform.
The honest caveat is licensing: SPAR3D is free for commercial and non-commercial use under the Stability AI Community License, which is not OSI-approved and carries enterprise terms for larger businesses, so verify the license before shipping a commercial product on it.
