SeedEdit 3.0
Instruction-based image editing model that changes what you ask it to while preserving identity, background, and fine detail at up to 4K.
About
SeedEdit 3.0 is ByteDance Seed's image editing model, released on June 6, 2025 and built on top of the Seedream 3.0 text-to-image model. It edits real input images from plain-language instructions, covering portrait retouching, background swaps, object removal and addition, perspective shifts, and lighting adjustments. Its defining behavior is restraint: the tech report describes a data-curation pipeline and joint diffusion-plus-reward training aimed at balancing what gets changed against what must stay intact, with inference reported at 10 to 15 seconds per image.
The model is live in ByteDance's consumer apps Jimeng and Doubao rather than being sold as a standalone API; third-party providers such as fal.ai resell access. ByteDance reported a 56.1 percent human-evaluated usability rate against 38.4 percent for SeedEdit 1.6, 37.1 percent for GPT-4o, and 30.3 percent for Gemini 2.0 on its own benchmark. Those figures are author-reported and the weights are closed, so treat the lead as a provider claim rather than settled fact.

Benchmarks
Author-reported (arXiv 2506.05083): 56.1% human-evaluated usability rate vs SeedEdit 1.6 (38.4%), GPT-4o (37.1%), Gemini 2.0 (30.3%); inference 10-15s per image
Provider-reported unless a source says otherwise. Benchmarks are marketing-adjacent by nature — treat them as directional.
Use cases
Trust score — 7/10
Scored 7/10 (verified tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: ByteDance Seed's official release post (seed.bytedance.com) confirms the June 6, 2025 release, 4K support, and Jimeng/Doubao availability; tech report arXiv 2506.05083 documents the usability-rate figures and 10-15s inference. Strengths: major-lab backing, real consumer deployment, detailed public tech report. Docked for: (1) benchmark figures are author-reported with no independent replication; (2) weights closed and no official standalone API or pricing; (3) third-party access pricing varies and is unverified. License: proprietary.
