Salamandra
Spain's public supercomputing center built its own multilingual LLM — 2B to 40B, Apache 2.0.
About
Salamandra is the Barcelona Supercomputing Center's family of open language models, released in late 2024 in 2B, 7B, and 40B sizes. It was trained on MareNostrum 5 with an emphasis on Spanish, Catalan, Galician, Basque, and other European languages alongside English and code. Everything is Apache 2.0 licensed with a published technical report. As a research-lab release, its ecosystem of fine-tunes and tooling is smaller than commercial open models.
