Baidu's about-face on open source: the full ERNIE 4.5 family — ten variants from a 0.3B dense model to a 424B MoE — released under Apache 2.0 in June 2025, with the PaddlePaddle-based ERNIEKit and FastDeploy tooling open-sourced alongside. It uses a heterogeneous MoE architecture with modality-isolated routing, and Baidu reports the 300B-A47B flagship beating DeepSeek-V3 on 22 of 28 benchmarks.
The honest caveat is that nearly all headline numbers are Baidu-reported, and the flagship MoE is far too large for most self-hosters — the smaller dense variants are the practical ones.
