About

Shippie (mattzcarey/shippie, MIT, formerly Code Review GPT) is an open-source agentic code-review tool built on the flue agent framework. Instead of only summarizing a diff, the agent loop reads the diff, explores the rest of the codebase with real developer tools, and can query external systems through MCP (browser automation, observability, documentation) before posting focused review comments on exposed secrets, performance problems, and edge cases. It reads AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md, and agent skills already in the repo, avoiding a second copy of instructions just for the reviewer.

It runs in GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Node, Cloudflare, or locally against staged changes (npx shippie init, then npx shippie review), and is provider-agnostic across Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter, and Cloudflare Workers AI using your own model key. Limitations: as a young community project it lacks the polish, hosted dashboards, and support of commercial reviewers, review quality depends heavily on the model you pay for, and large diffs can strain the agent's context handling.

What it can do

  • Agentic PR reviews with codebase exploration beyond the diff
  • MCP client for querying external tools and docs
  • Runs in CI, Cloudflare, Node, or locally on staged changes
  • Reads AGENTS.md/CLAUDE.md for project context
  • Inline suggest_change comments plus PR summary

Setup

Run npx shippie init in your repo, add a provider API key to repository secrets, and add the GitHub Action or GitLab CI workflow.

Prerequisites

Node 22+; a GitHub or GitLab repo; an API key for Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter, or Cloudflare.
