Scale AI
Data engine for AI: human data, model evals, and RLHF for frontier labs.
About
Scale AI is the data engine behind the world's leading AI models, supplying RLHF data, human preference data, data labeling pipelines, and model evaluations to frontier AI labs. Founded in 2016 by Alexandr Wang, it became the default data supplier for the generative AI boom.
In June 2025 Meta invested $14.3 billion for a 49% stake, valuing Scale at over $29 billion, and founder Alexandr Wang became Meta's Chief AI Officer. Scale continues to operate as a data engine for AI customers beyond Meta.
Pricing is enterprise and usage-based with no public self-serve free tier, so expect a sales-led process and significant minimums. Customer lists are vendor-reported, and post-deal independence questions linger for labs competing directly with Meta.
