RisingWave
Open-source streaming database in Postgres-compatible SQL.
About
RisingWave is an open-source (Apache 2.0) distributed streaming database: you write Postgres-compatible SQL and it keeps materialized views continuously fresh as data arrives from Kafka, Postgres CDC, MySQL CDC and webhooks. It collapses what is usually a four-system stack (Debezium plus Kafka plus Flink plus a serving database) into one engine queried with a plain SELECT, with exactly-once semantics and consistent snapshots. RisingWave Labs raised $36M in 2022 to build a cloud service on top.
Recent positioning targets agentic AI explicitly: streaming infrastructure that keeps agent context, feature stores and lakehouse tables (via managed Iceberg maintenance) continuously current. The engine reports 8,800+ GitHub stars (per vendor). Any Postgres client or BI tool connects over the Postgres wire protocol, which keeps adoption friction low for teams that already know SQL.
What it can do
- Postgres-compatible streaming SQL with continuously maintained materialized views
- Exactly-once processing with consistent snapshots across complex pipelines
- Managed Iceberg table maintenance for streaming-to-lakehouse flows
- Connectors for Kafka, Postgres/MySQL CDC, Pulsar, Kinesis and webhooks
Setup
Docker single-node image, Kubernetes via Helm, or RisingWave Cloud managed service.
Prerequisites
Streaming sources (Kafka, CDC); SQL knowledge is enough, no Java required.
