Positron
Next-generation data science IDE with a built-in AI assistant.
About
Positron is Posit's free, next-generation IDE for data science, built on Code OSS. It offers native Python and R support with data-science panes (consoles, variables, data explorer), Jupyter notebook and Quarto integration, remote SSH sessions, and git version control in one workspace.
Its built-in Posit Assistant is an AI coding experience with chat, inline assistance, and completions that understand live session state: loaded data frames, plots, console history, and errors. It runs on Posit AI Pass or a bring-your-own model provider, including Amazon Bedrock when running on SageMaker AI. Positron is also available in preview on Posit Cloud with no installation, and over 100,000 people use the editor per Posit's vendor-reported figures.
