pganalyze

Postgres performance monitoring with advisors that tell you why, not just what.

About

pganalyze is a PostgreSQL performance monitoring and optimization platform founded in 2012 by Lukas Fittl. It collects query statistics, EXPLAIN plans, logs, and system metrics from self-managed Postgres or managed services like Amazon RDS, then explains the why behind slow queries: automated EXPLAIN plan collection and visualization, an Index Advisor that simulates hundreds of hypothetical index combinations in-app, a VACUUM Advisor, and a Query Advisor, plus continuous profiling and trend analysis. Hundreds of teams from 5 to thousands of engineers use it, including Atlassian.

Notably, pganalyze takes a deliberate advise-only stance toward AI: in its 'Dilemma of the AI DBA' writing it argues high-risk database actions need human accountability, so its advisors recommend but never execute DDL or config changes. It is SOC 2 Type 2 certified with PII filtering and SSO. Pricing is published: from $149/month per database server with a 14-day trial. I have not hands-on tested the Indexing Engine's recommendations.

What it can do

  • Automated EXPLAIN plan collection and visualization
  • Index Advisor with in-app hypothetical index simulation
  • VACUUM Advisor for autovacuum health
  • Query Advisor and continuous database profiling
  • Per-query statistics, drill-down, and trend analysis
  • PII filtering, SSO, SOC 2 Type 2
  • Self-managed and DBaaS support (RDS and others)
  • Advise-only philosophy: never auto-applies changes

Setup

  1. Start a 14-day trial at pganalyze.com.
  2. Install the pganalyze collector alongside your Postgres servers (self-managed, RDS, or on-premise).
  3. Enable EXPLAIN plan collection and log insights.
  4. Review Index, VACUUM, and Query Advisor recommendations and apply the ones you approve.

Prerequisites

PostgreSQL servers you can install the collector on; RDS or self-managed both supported.

Trust score — 7/10

/10 trustMetrics-checked

Scored 7/10 (TIER metrics, metrics-v1). Evidence: founded 2012, 14-year operator with named enterprise users (Atlassian); published transparent pricing ($149/mo per DB server); SOC 2 Type 2, PII filtering, SSO; actively publishing Postgres content in 2026. Strengths: deep Postgres specialization, honest advise-only AI stance, long track record. Docked for: (1) Index Advisor recommendation quality untested hands-on; (2) modest public review footprint for a 14-year company. License: proprietary.
