PearAI
Open-source AI code editor that bundles the best coding tools into one VS Code fork.
About
PearAI is an open-source, AI-native fork of VS Code (Y Combinator S24) that curates a working stack out of the box: Continue for chat, Supermaven for autocomplete, Roo Code/Cline for agentic coding, Perplexity for search, and Mem0 for memory. You can route through the hosted PearAI Router, bring your own API keys, or run local models via Ollama or LM Studio. The appeal is control over providers and an inspectable codebase. Expect a younger, less polished experience than Cursor, credit-based hosted usage, and telemetry that is on by default, so privacy-minded users should check the settings.
What it can do
- AI chat with selected-code context
- Inline edits with visible diffs
- Agentic coding powered by Roo Code/Cline
- Tab autocomplete via Supermaven
- Local codebase indexing with .pearaiignore support
- Slash commands for commits, tests, and terminal commands
- Bring-your-own-key or fully local model options
Setup
- Download PearAI from trypear.ai for your OS.
- Pick a model backend: PearAI Router, your own API key, or a local model via Ollama/LM Studio.
- Open a project; the codebase gets indexed locally.
- Chat with selected code, use Cmd+K style inline edits, or launch the agent for multi-file work.
Prerequisites
A PearAI account for hosted routing, or your own API keys / local models via Ollama.

Trust score — 6/10
Scored 6/10 (metrics tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: Y Combinator S24; steady community interest as an open-source Cursor alternative, but smaller user base than closed competitors.; Open-source repo (trypear/pearai-app) with ongoing commits; younger project with a thinner enterprise story.; Open source; editor fork of VS Code with inspectable AI stack (Continue, Roo Code/Cline, Supermaven).; Honest caveat: telemetry on by default with prompt logging for QA per a March 2026 audit; users should check settings.. License: Open source (VS Code fork); check repo for exact license file..
