About

Outerbase was a developer database platform pairing a visual table explorer with an AI-powered query editor: type questions in natural language, get SQL with type-ahead, edit data spreadsheet-style, and expose automatic REST APIs with row-level security and WebSocket streaming. Cloudflare acquired it in April 2025, and its technology is being integrated into the Cloudflare dashboard for D1 and Durable Objects.

The honest picture: the standalone hosted cloud shut down on October 15, 2025 — you can no longer sign up for Outerbase-as-a-service. What survives is Outerbase Studio, which remains open source and self-hostable, plus the features landing inside Cloudflare's platform. Evaluate it as an open-source project or via Cloudflare, not as the SaaS it used to be.

What it can do

  • Natural-language to SQL query generation
  • Spreadsheet-style visual data browsing and editing
  • Automatic REST APIs with row-level security
  • Type-ahead query editor
  • WebSocket support for streaming queries
  • Open-source Studio for self-hosting

Setup

Self-host Outerbase Studio from the open-source repos, or use the integrated data explorer inside the Cloudflare dashboard for D1/Durable Objects.

Prerequisites

A database to connect (Postgres, MySQL, D1, etc.); Docker or a Cloudflare account for the respective path.
