Nscale
UK AI-native hyperscaler renting GPU supercomputing for training and inference.
About
Nscale is a UK-headquartered AI infrastructure company building renewable-powered data centers purpose-built for AI workloads. Spun out of crypto-mining infrastructure firm Arkon Energy in 2024, it operates as a neocloud: renting access to large GPU clusters alongside managed software and AI services including serverless inference, fine-tuning, and private cloud.
In September 2025 it raised $1.1 billion in Series B funding, the largest Series B in UK and European history, led by Aker ASA with participation from Nvidia, Dell, Nokia, Fidelity, and Point72, at a reported valuation around $3.1 billion. Nscale is OpenAI's chosen partner for the inaugural Stargate UK site and is building what it describes as the UK's largest AI supercomputer in Loughton, Essex, in partnership with Microsoft, alongside a large Norway campus targeting 100,000 GPUs.
Caveats: the buildout targets are extremely ambitious for a young company, and public filings have raised questions about how British its ownership truly is given the Arkon Energy lineage. As with all neoclouds, long-term profitability against GPU price deflation is unproven.
