Neovate Code
A cross-platform coding agent for the terminal — generate code, fix bugs, review, and test.
About
Neovate Code is a terminal coding agent (pronounced 'nee-oh-vayt') for the everyday development loop: generating code, fixing bugs, reviewing changes, and adding tests. It installs from npm (@neovate/code), runs on macOS, Linux, and Windows, and respects the standard API_KEY environment variables across providers — or walks you through /login and /model selection interactively if you have no key handy.
The interaction model will feel familiar if you have used any Claude Code-style agent: describe the task in the command line, review proposed changes, approve tool calls. Docs live at neovateai.dev, and the project is MIT-licensed.
The honest caveat: the repository went quiet after March 2026, so this is a bet on a stable, small tool rather than a fast-moving one — check the issue tracker before depending on it. In a field crowded with terminal agents, Neovate's pitch is simplicity and cross-platform polish rather than novel capabilities.
What it can do
- Terminal coding agent: code generation, bug fixes, reviews, test authoring
- Cross-platform: macOS, Linux, Windows
- Multi-provider with standard API_KEY env var support
- Guided /login and /model selection for keyless onboarding
- Change review and tool-call approval flow
- MIT-licensed; docs at neovateai.dev
