About

Flux159/mcp-server-kubernetes (1.6k stars, MIT) is the most-used community MCP server for Kubernetes: pods, logs, deployments, and resource inspection exposed as agent tools.

It's actively maintained (47 releases in 12 months, pushed Oct 2026) but this is a community project, not a vendor one — and Kubernetes access is cluster-admin-adjacent by nature. Run it against a scoped service account, never cluster-admin, and treat log output as potentially sensitive.

What it can do

  • kubectl-like tools for pods, logs, deployments, and resources via MCP
  • MIT-licensed, 1.6k stars, 47 releases in 12 months
  • Works with any MCP-compatible client over stdio
  • The de-facto community choice for K8s + agents

Setup

  1. npx mcp-server-kubernetes — or one-command client setup: claude mcp add kubernetes -- npx mcp-server-kubernetes.
  2. Point it at a kubeconfig for a DEDICATED service account — never your admin context (default ~/.kube/config otherwise).
  3. Bind the service account to minimal RBAC roles (read-only to start).
  4. Claude Desktop users can also install it as an mcpb extension from Settings → Extensions.
  5. Review which verbs the server exposes before pointing it at production.

Prerequisites

Node.js; a Kubernetes cluster; a scoped kubeconfig/service account.

Trust score — 8/10

/10 trustVerified

Scored 7/10 (metrics tier). The community standard for Kubernetes MCP (1.6k stars, MIT, steady releases) — but community-maintained and operating at the cluster's privilege level. The score assumes you'll do what the setup says: dedicated service account, minimal RBAC, never your admin kubeconfig.
