Materialize
Streaming SQL database that keeps query results fresh as data arrives.
About
Materialize is a streaming SQL database: you write standard SQL views and it incrementally maintains the results as new data streams in, so dashboards, alerts and application reads always see up-to-date answers without re-running queries. Sources include Kafka, Postgres CDC and webhooks, and it speaks the Postgres wire protocol so existing BI tools and drivers connect directly. The company raised a $60M Series C in 2021 led by Redpoint Ventures, bringing total funding past $100M.
For AI systems the value is fresh context: feature pipelines, anomaly signals and real-time aggregations that feed models and agents stay current by construction instead of on a batch schedule. Materialize competes with Flink-based stacks and RisingWave, differentiating on correctness guarantees and the plain-SQL interface that data analysts already know.
What it can do
- Incrementally maintained materialized views over streaming data in standard SQL
- Postgres wire-protocol compatibility for BI tools and drivers
- Connectors for Kafka, Postgres/MySQL CDC, webhooks and object storage
- Exactly-once processing semantics for correct real-time results
Setup
Sign up for Materialize Cloud, or run the Docker image / Kubernetes operator.
Prerequisites
Streaming or CDC sources (Kafka, Postgres, etc.); SQL knowledge.
