Lightning AI
The operating system for AI development: cloud studios for training, deploying, and agents.
About
Lightning AI is the company behind PyTorch Lightning, the widely used open-source deep-learning framework (160M+ downloads) created by founder and CEO William Falcon. Its platform, Lightning AI Studios, unifies fragmented ML tooling into multiplayer, cloud-based, persistent development environments for model development, fine-tuning, deployment, hosting AI apps, and building AI agents, with code-together collaboration and cloud GPUs.
In November 2024 Lightning AI raised a $50M equity round from Cisco Investments, J.P. Morgan, K5 Global, and NVIDIA, bringing total funding to $103M, and reported 240,000 users across 2,000 organizations. Pricing is pay-as-you-go with a free tier including 22 GPU hours per month, plus enterprise private-cloud options with SOC 2 and HIPAA. Limitations: GPU costs still add up fast at scale, the platform's abstractions can fight you on exotic infrastructure needs, and heavy users remain dependent on Lightning's cloud economics.
