About
Jukedeck was one of the first AI music startups to gain real traction. Founded in London in 2012 by Ed Newton-Rex, it launched a website in 2015 that let anyone generate original royalty-free music in about 20 seconds by setting genre, instruments, duration, and climactic moments. By 2017 its rule-based engine had been replaced with neural networks generating compositions rendered by an automated production program.
The site produced over a million tracks used by brands including Coca-Cola and Google, won TechCrunch Disrupt London 2015, and raised 2.5M pounds before ByteDance acquired it in 2019 for an undisclosed sum. The team joined TikTok's AI Lab and the website was taken offline. It remains a landmark in generative music history.
