Hoppscotch
Open-source API development ecosystem — the leading self-hostable Postman alternative.
About
Hoppscotch is an open-source (MIT) API development platform and the most-starred Postman alternative, with roughly 80,000 GitHub stars. It supports REST, GraphQL, WebSocket, Socket.IO, SSE, and MQTT from a fast browser-based interface, with desktop apps and a self-hostable all-in-one Docker container for teams that want their API data inside their own network.
Beyond request testing it offers team workspaces, shared collections and environments, pre-request and post-request scripting, an npm CLI (hopp test) for running collections in CI/CD, and an MCP server (added in 2026) that lets AI coding assistants like Claude Code and Cursor drive Hoppscotch collections. The free plan states no caps on workspaces, collections, requests, or runners; the Organization plan is $6 per user per month. Requests to localhost from the browser still need the desktop app or a browser extension, and docs publishing is thinner than dedicated docs platforms.
What it can do
- REST, GraphQL, WebSocket, SSE, Socket.IO, and MQTT testing in one interface
- Team workspaces with shared collections, environments, and request history
- CLI runner for collections in CI/CD pipelines
- MCP server connecting AI agents to API collections
Setup
Use the hosted web app at hoppscotch.io with no install, download the desktop app, or self-host with the hoppscotch/hoppscotch all-in-one Docker image plus PostgreSQL.
Prerequisites
A browser for the web app; Docker and PostgreSQL for self-hosting; Node.js for the CLI (npm install -g @hoppscotch/cli).
