GitHub Agent HQ
Mission control for your whole agent fleet — assign, steer, and govern coding agents from any vendor.
About
Announced at GitHub Universe in October 2025, Agent HQ is GitHub's answer to the multi-agent sprawl: instead of building one agent to rule them all, it provides an open platform where coding agents from Anthropic (Claude Code), OpenAI (Codex), Google (Jules), Cognition (Devin), xAI, and GitHub's own Copilot can all be orchestrated side by side.
The centerpiece is Mission Control, a single pane of glass across GitHub, VS Code, mobile, and the CLI for assigning tasks, watching agents work in real time, pausing or redirecting them, and resolving conflicts. Developers can also define custom agents in VS Code with project-specific rules (AGENTS.md), discover specialist MCP servers through the GitHub MCP Registry, and lean on enterprise-grade controls: branch-level permissions, agent identities managed like coworkers, audit logging, and a metrics dashboard for AI's impact on the codebase. Availability is tied to paid Copilot tiers (Pro+ and Enterprise at launch).
What it can do
- Mission Control: assign, monitor, steer, and pause agents across GitHub, VS Code, mobile, CLI
- Multi-vendor agents in one place (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Cognition, xAI, Copilot)
- Custom agents defined in VS Code with project-specific rules and AGENTS.md
- GitHub MCP Registry for specialist MCP servers
- Enterprise governance: branch controls, agent identities, audit logs, usage metrics
- Sandboxed execution with firewall protections and one-click conflict resolution
Setup
- Have a paid GitHub Copilot subscription (Pro+ or Enterprise).
- Open Mission Control on github.com, in VS Code, on mobile, or via the CLI.
- Assign work to any connected agent (Copilot, Claude Code, Codex, Jules, Devin, custom).
- Monitor sessions, steer or pause agents mid-run, and review results before merging.
- (Optional) Define custom agents in VS Code and enable MCP servers from the GitHub MCP Registry.
Prerequisites
A paid GitHub Copilot subscription; agents run in sandboxed GitHub Actions environments under your org's policies.
Use cases
Works with
Trust score — 7/10
Scored 7/10 (metrics tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: GitHub's official launch announcement plus consistent independent coverage (InfoWorld, The New Stack, SiliconANGLE, VentureBeat); platform is live for paid tiers. Strengths: first-party GitHub surface, genuine multi-vendor support, serious enterprise governance (sandboxing, identity, audit). Docked for: (1) closed platform tied to paid Copilot tiers — no self-hosting, no openness; (2) governance quality is GitHub's own description, not independently audited here; (3) multi-agent orchestration is still early and the 'single pane' promise depends on third-party agents integrating well. License: closed platform.

- · Announced at GitHub Universe Oct 2025; official launch post verified live on github.blog
- · Mission Control across github.com/VS Code/mobile/CLI; multi-vendor agents (Claude Code, Codex, Jules, Devin, xAI) plus custom VS Code agents and GitHub MCP Registry — consistently reported across independent outlets
- · Enterprise governance (branch controls, agent identities, audit logs, metrics) is GitHub's own description — not independently audited here
- · manual review: closed platform tied to paid Copilot tiers; multi-agent orchestration still early and depends on third-party integrations maturing
