About

D-ID, founded in 2017 in Tel Aviv, turned a single photo into a talking head and built a company on it. Its Creative Reality Studio animates still images into speaking avatars across 120+ languages, with avatar tiers from V2 photo animation to V4 Expressive. In 2025 the company pivoted hard toward conversational AI: AI Agents 2.0 enables real-time face-to-face conversations with digital assistants (earning a CES 2026 Innovation Award), it acquired explainer-video platform simpleshow in September 2025, and partnered with Microsoft Teams for enterprise distribution.

The honest picture: D-ID's entry pricing is among the cheapest in the space — a 14-day trial, then Lite from $5.90/mo, Pro $29, Advanced $196, API from $18/mo — but the trade-offs are visible. Avatars have no hand gestures and limited scene control, the Lite tier keeps D-ID branding, and trial output is fully watermarked. The pivot to agents means pure video-generation features get less love than the conversational platform. For talking-head explainers, translated presenters, and website agents on a budget, it's still one of the most affordable options.
