About

Devin by Cognition is a cloud-hosted autonomous coding agent: give it a Jira ticket, bug report, or feature request and it plans, codes, tests, debugs, and opens a PR inside a sandboxed environment with its own terminal, editor, and browser. It re-plans when blocked, iterates on failing tests by itself, and builds repo knowledge over time. Cognition also acquired Windsurf in 2025 and reports wide enterprise use. Pricing is usage-based from a $20/month entry tier, but costs can climb fast at scale, complex tasks still take a long time, and the product is fully closed with limited transparency into its reasoning.

What it can do

  • Autonomous task execution from ticket to PR
  • Sandboxed environment with terminal, editor, and browser
  • Dynamic re-planning when blocked
  • Autonomous error recovery on failing builds and tests
  • Devin Search and repo Wiki
  • Slack, GitHub, Linear, and Jira integrations
  • IDE extension for handoff and review

Setup

  1. Sign up at devin.ai and connect your GitHub organization.
  2. Start a session from the web app, Slack, or the IDE extension.
  3. Describe the task and how to verify it; Devin works in its sandbox.
  4. Review the resulting PR and give feedback in the session thread.

Prerequisites

A Devin account with usage credits; GitHub repository access.

Trust score — 7/10

/10 trustMetrics-checked

Scored 7/10 (metrics tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: High-profile adoption: Goldman Sachs pilot, Nubank case study; Cognition reported $1B+ annualized revenue run rate in 2026.; Very actively developed: Devin 2.0, SWE-1.x custom models, Windsurf acquisition in 2025.; Fully closed and proprietary; no public repository; minimal transparency into agent reasoning.; Honest caveats: usage-based ACU pricing gets expensive at scale; long execution times on complex tasks.. License: Proprietary SaaS; no public source license..
