Atlas
Database schema as code with Terraform-like declarative migrations.
About
Atlas, built by Ariga, is a language-agnostic tool for managing and migrating database schemas with modern DevOps principles. It offers two workflows: a declarative mode that compares the live database against a desired schema defined in HCL, SQL, or an ORM model and plans the migration automatically, and a versioned mode with linting, drift detection, and CI integration.
The declarative workflow feels like Terraform for databases, which makes it a natural fit for teams already managing infrastructure as code. Community providers extend it to ORM frameworks including Entity Framework Core, and installation is a one-liner via curl, Homebrew, Docker, or npm.
What it can do
- Declarative Terraform-style schema apply
- Automatic versioned migration planning
- Schema linting and drift detection
- CI/CD workflows for database changes
- ORM provider integrations for C# and more
Setup
curl -sSf https://atlasgo.sh | sh or brew install ariga/tap/atlas; define the schema in HCL or SQL.
Prerequisites
A database to manage; schema defined in HCL, SQL, or a supported ORM.
