About

Arable's Mark 3 is a single in-field device that measures weather, plant, soil and irrigation flow together, designed with Bould Design, the studio behind the Nest thermostat. It packs a 22-band spectrometer, a 4-way net radiometer and a research-grade thermal sensor accurate to within 1 degree Celsius, plus an acoustic rain sensor; it runs up to two months without sunlight, installs in minutes and needs no maintenance. Data flows into Arable's cloud, where modeling and machine learning turn it into irrigation, crop-protection, fertilization and harvest decisions; hundreds of agribusinesses and food companies use it in over 30 countries.

The company reports customers cutting pesticide use by up to 15% and irrigation by up to 22% while holding yields, and the Mark 3 won AgTech Breakthrough's Sensor of the Year in 2024. Pricing is quote-based per device plus SaaS. Caveat: those savings figures are vendor-reported customer results; a single-point sensor's value depends on field heterogeneity, so dense or variable fields may need several devices to represent conditions well.

What it can do

  • Weather, plant, soil and irrigation flow sensing in one device
  • 22-band spectrometer for early plant-stress diagnosis
  • Research-grade thermal and net radiometer sensors
  • IP67 rugged, solar-powered, up to 2 months without sunlight
  • ML-driven insights for irrigation, protection and fertilization

Setup

Order Mark 3 devices; install in the field in minutes, no maintenance; connect via the Arable dashboard.

Trust score — 8/10

/10 trustVerified

Scored 8/10 (verified tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: hundreds of customers in 30+ countries; Sensor of the Year 2024; Mark 3 specs independently documented. Strengths: integrated sensing nobody else packages this way, strong enterprise traction (Treasury Wine Estates), award-winning hardware. Docked for: (1) savings figures are vendor-reported customer results; (2) quote-only pricing limits cost transparency. License: Proprietary hardware + SaaS; quote-based pricing.
