About

Aperty was Skylum's portrait-only editor, launched in November 2024 as a focused alternative to general photo editors. It used AI face-mesh technology mapping up to 4,000 points per face, with segmentation across dozens of facial and body regions, to automate skin smoothing, blemish removal, makeup application, studio-light simulation, and batch retouching.

In October 2026 Skylum announced it was discontinuing Aperty, retiring the product well short of the five years of updates it had promised at launch. The shutdown fits a wider pattern of AI photo apps being scaled back as development costs bite.

What it can do

  • AI face mesh with up to 4,000 points per face
  • Segmentation across up to 30 facial and body regions
  • Skin smoothing, blemish removal, and digital makeup
  • Studio-light simulation with up to five light sources
  • Batch retouching across full photoshoots

Setup

Desktop app for Windows and macOS, also worked as a Lightroom and Photoshop plugin. Discontinued October 2026; existing owners should check Skylum's sunset terms.

Prerequisites

Windows or macOS; RAW or JPEG portraits.
