Anthropic Document Skills

The document skills behind Claude's docx, pdf, pptx, and xlsx abilities

Visit official site →

About

This is the official Anthropic skills repo's document skill set: the docx, pdf, pptx, and xlsx skills that power Claude's document creation and editing under the hood, shared as reference for building production-grade skills. Agents use them to generate and edit Word docs, PDFs, PowerPoint decks, and spreadsheets with proper formatting instead of plain text dumps. Install via the Claude Code plugin marketplace as document-skills@anthropic-agent-skills, or use them in Claude.ai and the Skills API. License caveat, straight from the repo: the document skills are source-available, not open source (the rest of the repo is Apache 2.0), and everything ships with a demonstration-only disclaimer — test before relying on it for critical work.

What it can do

  • Word document creation and editing (docx)
  • PDF generation and form-field extraction
  • PowerPoint deck building (pptx)
  • Spreadsheet creation with formulas (xlsx)
  • Production-grade skill patterns as reference

Setup

In Claude Code, run /plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills, then /plugin install document-skills@anthropic-agent-skills. Mention the skill by name when you need it (e.g. "use the PDF skill to extract form fields").

Prerequisites

Claude Code for the plugin route; a paid Claude.ai plan or API access for the other routes.
