Aloft
FAA-approved drone airspace and fleet management: LAANC authorizations, UTM, and enterprise Air Control.
About
Aloft, formerly Kittyhawk, is the leading FAA-approved drone airspace and fleet management platform in the United States. Its network powers the majority of LAANC airspace authorizations, the system drone pilots use to fly legally in controlled airspace, and it offers unmanned traffic management (UTM) for government, public safety, enterprise, and recreational pilots. Its Air Control platform gives enterprises a single data record for fleets: mission planning, checklists, risk assessments, flight logging, and live video streaming, across DJI, Parrot, Autel, and Skydio hardware.
In February 2026 Aloft was acquired by Versaterm, a public safety technology company, to integrate its airspace intelligence into the DroneSense platform for agencies. Aloft offers a free tier for individual pilots (LAANC requests, airspace checks, checklists), holds SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 compliance, and publishes a REST API with roughly 180 operations for developers. The individual tier is genuinely free, but serious fleet features and compliance tooling sit in the enterprise product, where pricing is not public.
What it can do
- FAA-approved USS with the majority of US LAANC authorizations
- Air Control enterprise platform: fleet data record, user management, reporting
- Mission planning, pre-flight checklists, and risk assessments
- Live video streaming and flight logging across DJI, Parrot, Autel, Skydio
- REST API with ~180 operations for developer integrations
- SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 compliance
Setup
- Download the Aloft app or sign up at aloft.ai; the individual tier is free.
- Register your aircraft and pilot details for FAA-compliant operations.
- Request LAANC authorizations in near real-time before flights in controlled airspace.
- For fleets, move to Aloft Air Control for user management, reporting, and API integrations.
Prerequisites
A drone and (in the US) appropriate FAA registration; for enterprise Air Control, a commercial plan.
Use cases
Works with
Trust score — 7/10
Scored 7/10 (metrics tier, metrics-v1). Evidence: FAA-approved USS status and LAANC majority corroborated by drone press (DroneDJ, DroneLife); Versaterm acquisition confirmed Feb 2026; aloft.ai verified live with Air Control, API docs, and compliance pages. Strengths: regulatory position is a real moat, free individual tier, documented API. Docked for: (1) enterprise fleet pricing not public; (2) post-acquisition roadmap now sits under Versaterm's public-safety strategy. License: proprietary.
